Palmistry by Wintertime

Fandom: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
Genre: Angst
Characters: Nick Stokes, Catherine Willows
Pairing: Hints of Nick/Catherine
Rating: PG

Synopsis: "She's saving him. She's always there to save him at the last minute."

Review: Wow. How much do I love this? It's dark and twisted, and the way that Wintertime paints Nick is full of despair but still beautiful. It's an interesting twist, but handled so, so well. You can extrapolate Nick's character in this from the show, if he wasn't quite so resilient as he is (or if the writers had a better grasp of continuity), as he spirals downwards. The language used is beautiful, with lovely little insights that speak of Nick's descent into darkness, and yet it never becomes melodramatic or less than believable.

It's primarily a Nick fic, with a side order of Catherine, so even if you're not a fan of Nick and Catherine together, it's still worth a read. In fact, it's definitely a must read for anyone who likes their stories with more than a side order of bittersweet.
